The dbx Silver Series dynamic processors are equipped with high-quality 12AU7 vacuum tubes located behind ventilated front panels. The features of the entire series include Drive and Level controls on the tube stage, allowing control over the degree of tube coloration of the signal, custom VU meters, gold-plated Neutrik XLR connectors, and 1/4 inch TRS connectors, as well as an optional digital output Type IV Conversion System. The 586 model is equipped with +48 V outputs, an attenuator, a phase inverter, low-cut filter switches, an insert loop with send level control, and a PeakPlus limiter.

Custom-designed analog VU meters monitor the levels of drive, insert, or output signal. dbx has long been known as a leader in signal processing technology, and microphone preamps have always been an integral part of this reputation. Following this tradition, dbx presents a new product in the tube technology market with the 586 two-channel tube preamp. The 586 carries the legacy of previous dbx models into the realm of tube technology. As usual, we have made every effort to ensure that the 586 preamp has all the standard features one could wish for from a preamp, including specially designed analog VU meters that track the signal level in the insert path or at the output, +48 V phantom power, a 20 dB attenuator, phase inversion, and a low-cut filter. Line/instrument and microphone inputs make the 586 versatile enough for use with virtually any signal source. Add to this impressive list of standard features such additional features as a three-band equalizer with adjustable mid frequencies and adjustable Q (with hardware bypass of the equalizer), available insert path, and a new PeakPlus limiter topology, and you have a winner.

With the optional dbx TYPE IV Conversion System output, you can transfer the essence of tube processing directly into the digital world without leaving the box. The digital output provides the ability to communicate via AES/EBU or S/PDIF with a word length of up to 16 or 20 bits. Moreover, TYPE IV allows you to choose noise shaping algorithms and dithering types that best suit your music and your medium. Never before have digital users been offered so much flexibility. The 586 has all the versatility of the rear panel and connectivity options that simplify setup and connection to any system. No special cables or adapters required. Gold-plated Neutrik(R) connectors for audio inputs and outputs ensure reliable connections and clean sound every time. Separate 1/4 inch connectors for sends and returns of the insert, as well as +4/-10 signal level switching, make the process simple and quick.
