The Fireface 400 is not just called the younger brother of the Fireface 800 by the manufacturer; it is a completely newly developed device, unique in its class with active jitter suppression, standalone operation mode, fully controllable from the front panel, flexible professional-quality input/output signal capabilities, and a 648-channel signal matrix router supporting sampling rates up to 192 kHz. RME Fireface 400 has a full set of features that PCI cards possess, thanks to its proprietary Firewire controller chip design.
